Ex-wife admits accessory role in killing

August 28, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A 25-year-old West Baltimore woman pleaded guilty yesterday to being an accessory after the fact in connection with the killing of her former husband last year, the city state's attorney's office said.

Stephanie Madariaga, 25, is alleged by prosecutors and police to have been present during an argument between her former husband, 26-year-old Kevin Shields, and 29-year-old Jason Moody.

Shields was killed in the parking lot of his apartment complex in the 3300 block of Clarks Lane. Moody is awaiting trial in federal court.

Prosecutors said Madariaga and Moody fled the country after the killing. They were arrested in September at Newark International Airport while returning from the Dominican Republic.

Baltimore Circuit Judge Allen L. Schwait set sentencing for Madariaga for Dec. 1. She could receive a maximum prison sentence of five years, the state's attorney's office said.
