Mary W. Thommen, a registered nurse who worked at Bon Secours Hospital for more than 40 years, died of heart failure Aug. 19 at North Arundel Hospital. She was 93.
She was raised on Riverside Avenue in Baltimore and graduated in 1929 from Seton High School.
Miss Thommen was a graduate of Bon Secours Hospital School of Nursing and completed training in anesthesiology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
She began her career at Bon Secours during the 1930s and was an anesthetist there until she retired in the early 1970s.
Miss Thommen lived in the 1400 block of Riverside Ave. for many years before moving to Bel Air. Since 1999, she had been a resident of HeartHomes Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Care facility in Odenton.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
Miss Thommen was a parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Baltimore, where a memorial Mass was offered Monday.
She is survived by a brother, Charles Thommen Sr. of Glen Burnie; a sister, Cecilia T. Bayne of Odenton; and many nieces and nephews.
