James E. Berner, 70, parts company manager

James E. Berner, former Northeastern regional manager for an automotive parts and equipment company, died of cancer Aug. 20 at his Lutherville home. He was 70.

Born and raised in Milwaukee, he earned a bachelor's degree in business in 1954 from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. He worked for more than 20 years for Robert Bosch Corp. in sales and as a regional manger until retiring in 1996.

He was an avid Ravens, Orioles and Green Bay Packers fan, and liked hiking and biking on the North Central Railway Trail and playing golf.

As a member of the Towson Jaycees, he was active in youth sports as a coach and manager for his children's softball and baseball teams.

He was a communicant of Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter in Lutherville, where services were held Wednesday.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, the former Kathryn "Kitty" Harder; two sons, Steven J. Berner of Amarillo, Texas, and Andrew N. Berner of Lutherville; two daughters, Leslie A. Johnson of Fairfax, Va., and Kimberly H. Cupito of Dallas; and three grandchildren.
