New MICA exhibits

Two new exhibits go up tomorrow at Maryland Institute College of Art galleries.

The first is art by new MICA sophomores strutting their stuff. It is officially called Foundation Exhibition and is timed to impress (or intimidate?) the freshmen starting this fall. The second exhibit is of recent works by faculty returning from their sabbaticals. Both exhibitions open tomorrow.

The Maryland Institute College of Art's Decker Gallery is in the Mount Royal Station at 1400 Cathedral St., and the Meyerhoff Gallery is in the Fox Building at 1303 Mount Royal Ave. Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and noon-5 p.m. Sundays. Call 410-225-2300 or visit www.mi ca.edu.

Inspired by Greece

If you haven't seen enough of Greece on television lately, stop by ARTFX in Annapolis on Wednesday to see a new exhibit of ceramic wall sculptures by Jewell Gross Brenneman. The 20 pieces in the exhibit were inspired by ancient Greek art. Much of the work on display honors women.

ARTFX is at 45 West St. in Annapolis. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Saturdays and 1 p.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. Call 410-990-4540. -- Annie Linskey
