Grassroots festival

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones have had a wild summer. Their coast-to-coast schedule caught the attention of the editors at USA Today, who ran a front-page piece on the band's summer tour. The act comes to our neck of the woods on Sunday when the group plays in the fifth annual Grassroots Music and Arts Festival at Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The lineup also includes Keller Williams, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sam Bush and Del McCoury.

Gates open at 2 p.m., and Bela Fleck is scheduled to go on at 6:30 p.m. Lawn seating costs $30. Pavilion seating is $42-$55.

Merriweather Post Pavilion is at 10475 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. For tickets, call 800-594-TIXX or visit www.walther-productions .com.

If you missed them at Artscape, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy will be swinging at the 9:30 Club in Washington tomorrow.

Tickets are $20. The band is scheduled to go on at 9 p.m.

The 9:30 Club is at 815 V St. N.W., Washington. Call 202-393-0930 or visit www.930.com. For more information about the band, visit www.bbvd.com.

Ottobar dance party

Satiate your nostalgia need tonight at the Ottobar's weekly dance party.

Expect tunes from the late '80s, '90s and recent music with that sound. DJs Mod Dave and Shakes Davies spin from 9 p.m. to closing time.

The goal is "to try to make people dance as much as possible," said Ottobar part-owner Brian DeRan. "It's got its own vibe."

As an added bonus, happy hour is midnight to 2 a.m. The party is upstairs only, and for ages 21 and over.

The Ottobar is at 2549 N. Howard St. Call 410-662-0069 or visit www.theottobar.com.
