SafeNet Inc.Shares of the Belcamp maker of Internet security software rose nearly 4.8 percent yesterday and have gained 14.5 percent over the past eight trading days, despite securities fraud charges filed Monday by the U.S. attorney in San Francisco against the former chief financial officer of Cylink Corp., which SafeNet acquired in 2002.


H&R Block Inc.

Shares of the biggest U.S. tax preparation company slid $2.78, or 5.4 percent, to close at $48.45 yesterday after Block reported a net loss of 26 cents a share for its fiscal first quarter, which ended July 31. Analysts expected the company to lose 5 cents a share.
