Free screenings, exhibits planned at Arundel Mills

North Arundel Hospital will offer free screenings and educational exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Entrance 4 and Jillian's:

Today, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Sept. 2, 10 to 2 p.m., blood pressure screening.

Sept. 3, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., neck and shoulder massages, as well as information benefits of massage therapy.

Sept. 7, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Sept. 8, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., diabetes and diet information.

Sept. 9, 10 a.m. to noon, back screenings.

Sept. 10, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., health fair, in Neighborhood 4, with various exhibits and screenings.

Sept. 13, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Sept. 16, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., blood pressure and lung screenings, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Sept. 20, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., county Department of Aging will offer information about its services and answer questions.

Sept. 21, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Sept. 27, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., blood pressure screenings.

Sept. 28, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings and blood pressure screenings.

North Arundel Hospital will be offering free screenings and discussions this month in the county:

Sept. 2, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screening in the hospital's main lobby.

Sept. 8, 8:30 a.m. to noon, blood pressure screenings at Harundale Presbyterian Church, Eastway and Guilford Road, Glen Burnie.

Sept. 9, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., free Cancer Talk lecture. Reservations required. 410-553-8129.

Sept. 14, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., neck and back screenings, Pasadena Senior Center; 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings, Arnold Senior Center; and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Stroke Support Group discusses stroke recovery and prevention at the Courtney Conference Center, lower level, Tate Center. 410-787-4118.

Sept. 15, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Joslin Circle, a diabetes support group, meets to discuss diabetes management on the lower level of the Joslin Diabetes Center. 410-787-4940. Red Cross schedules CPR, first aid classes

Courses in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid have been scheduled for next month at several sites in Anne Arundel County by the American Red Cross of Central Maryland. They include:

Adult CPR, teaching emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedure and rescue for victims 8 and older. Courses are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 4 at the Edgewater Red Cross, 3475 Pike Ridge Road; 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 7 at Edgewater; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18 at Edgewater; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 25 at Severna Park United Methodist Church, 731 Benfield Blvd. Cost: $37.

First Aid Basics, training participants to identify and care for victims of illness and sudden injuries, including how to control bleeding, minimize the effects of shock, and care for muscular skeletal injuries and sudden illness due to heat and cold and other emergencies. This course does not include Adult CPR. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 11 at Severna Park United Methodist Church. Cost: $35.

Adult, Infant and Child CPR, teaching CPR for use with adult, infant and child victims. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 4 at Edgewater. Cost: $42.

Adult CPR and First Aid Basics, teaching rescue breathing, how to clear an obstructed airway, and how to perform one-rescuer CPR on victims 8 and older. Course also includes first aid basics on treating life-threatening bleeding, burns, fractures, shock and sudden illness. The course will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at Edgewater and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at Severna Park. Cost: $42.

Infant and Child CPR, teaching emergency action principles, rescue breathing, anti-choking procedures and CPR for infants and children from birth to age 8. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 4 at Severna Park and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 at Stanton Community Center, 92 W. Washington St., Annapolis. Cost: $37.

Infant and Child CPR and First Aid, emphasizing first aid for those who work in child care settings and including infant and child CPR certification. Classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 4 at Severna Park and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Annapolis. Cost: $42.

All courses are on a first-come basis, and pre-registration with payment is required.

Medical center expands blood donation schedule

The Anne Arundel Medical Center Blood Donor Center has announced an expanded appointment schedule.

The blood bank will be open for appointments:

Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. (evening hours by appointment).

Wednesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (evening hours by appointment).

Thursdays from 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Fridays from 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The donor center is on Level 1 of the Acute Care Pavilion, 2001 Medical Parkway. To make an appointment, call 443-481-4215 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
