AACC instructors' art on display at bookstore

Artwork from 10 instructors in Anne Arundel Community College's lifelong learning courses are featured in An Artists' Gathering, an art exhibit on display through Aug. 31 at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Annapolis.

This year's exhibit includes oil paintings, watercolors, drawings and prints. Artists are Don Clement, T.J. Monzo, Wanda C. Paxton and Susan H. Strok, all of Annapolis; Rheta Carter Clugston of Arnold; Steven T. Fischer of Crofton; Alice C. Yeager of Edgewater; C.J. Loeschke of Glen Burnie; Diane Tuckman of Lanham; and Martha A. Griffin of Seaford, Del.

AACC offers courses in studio arts, crafts, photography, music and theater. Classes meet in day, evening or weekend sessions around the county. View the exhibit from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. Information: 410-777-2325.

St. John's College offers seminars on great works

St. John's College Continuing Education and Fine Arts Program will offer a variety of seminars and preceptorials on the Annapolis campus Sept. 10 to Nov. 20. St. John's faculty members lead small discussion groups that examine great works from Western civilization.

Participants can choose between a seminar on Homer's Odyssey led by Anita Kronsberg and Walter Sterling, and three preceptorials: "Churchill: History of the English-Speaking Peoples," led by Irena Datchev; "Jane Austen: Mansfield Park and Persuasion" led by Malcolm Wyatt; and "Mark Twain: Huckleberry Finn and Other Writings" led by Janice Macaulay.

Tuition is $160 for seminars and preceptorials. The registration deadline is Sept. 2. Information: 410-626-2881 or www. stjohnscollege.edu.

Global Positioning System course offered Saturday

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct a Global Positioning System course for boaters, hikers, hunters, etc. from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eastport/Hillsmere Library, 269 Hillsmere Drive, Annapolis.
