no arrests made

August 19, 2004

A 15-year-old Highlandtown girl was fatally shot near her home early yesterday, police said.

Police responded about 3 a.m. to a shooting in the 3100 block of Gough St. and found Lauren Zinsavage lying in the street, officers said. The girl had been shot in the upper chest.

She was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 3:48 a.m., police said.

Zinsavage lived in the 300 block of S. Bouldin St., not far from where she was shot. No arrests have been made, police said.

Zinsavage, who would have turned 16 next month, was about to start her junior year at Dundalk High School, said her mother, Beverly Brooks. At different times she had wanted to be a pediatrician and a cosmetologist, her mother said.

Brooks said she didn't know any details about what happened early yesterday.

Zinsavage's nickname was "Pinkii."

"She loved pink," Brooks said. "I even picked out her pink coffin."

Police are requesting that anyone with information about the killing call Detective Ray Hunter at 410-396-2100.
