Worcester man, 19, killed on Solley Road in motorcycle crash

A Worcester County teenager died Sunday when his Suzuki motorcycle crashed into a minivan trying to make a U-turn on Solley Road in northern Anne Arundel County, police said.

Douglas Robert Jarrell, 19, of the 3000 block of Village Trail, Snow Hill, was driving north on Solley Road about 1 p.m. Sunday when he struck the Dodge minivan in front of him, police said.

The crash threw Jarrell from his motorcycle and into the minivan. Jarrell suffered head, face and chest injuries and was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, police said. He was pronounced dead about 3:30 p.m.

The driver of the minivan, Lori Beth Schuessler, 39, of Ferndale, was not injured.

Anne Arundel police are still investigating the crash.

Sidewalks, improvements slated for Belle Grove Road

State Highway Administration officials have announced $5.1 million for sidewalks and other improvements to a 1.4-mile segment of Belle Grove Road in Pumphrey, a common shortcut between Baltimore and Odenton.

The improvements are planned between Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard and 10th Avenue, a predominantly residential area. Few sections of the two-lane road have sidewalks, although the highway administration says more than 12,000 vehicles travel the stretch near Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard.

Design for the project began last month. The work, which includes sidewalk construction, shoulder paving and drainage improvements, should begin in fall 2005 and be completed in spring 2007.
