Legg Mason Inc.

Shares of the Baltimore investment house rose $2.54, or 3.4 percent, to $78.41 yesterday, their first close over $78 in two weeks and nearly $5 over their 2004 low of $73.45 on Aug. 6. The shares are down almost 21 percent from their high this year of $99.10 on April 12.


Corning Inc.

The world's largest maker of glass products used in flat-panel televisions and computer displays gained 55 cents, or 5.8 percent, to $10.10 yesterday. Corning will benefit from strong demand for televisions, Needham & Co. said in raising the company's rating.
