Columbia's Macias is appointed to post in General Services

Ignacio A. Macias has been appointed special assistant to the assistant secretary for procurement and logistics in the Maryland Department of General Services.

He will oversee the department's Small Business and Minority Business Enterprise programs, and other departmental projects.

The Columbia resident was vice president of emerging markets at GMAC Financial Services, where he worked to develop business opportunities for Hispanic and African-American consumers.

Heart association names corporate relations chief

Rachel Miller, a longtime Howard County resident, has joined the American Heart Association as director of corporate relations for Howard County.

She will work with businesses and volunteers to raise money for the association's Heart Walk and annual Heart Gala.

She was associate director of annual giving for the Howard Hospital Foundation and was regional director for United Way in Howard County.
