County announces road work projects

The Carroll County Department of Public Works has announced road projects for this week.

Paving: Hollenberry Road from Obrecht Road to the end.

Paving: Wolf Hill subdivision, Phillips Drive.

Inlet repair and grade adjustment: Virginia Dare subdivision streets.

Inlet repair: Village Green Estates, Village Green Drive.

Closed for Reconstruction (local traffic only): Obrecht Road from White Rock Road to Route 97.

Closed for bridge reconstruction: Stoney Lane and Freter Road (at the bridge) between Old Liberty Road and Buckhorn Road.

County GOP to distribute Bush/Cheney items

The Carroll County Republican Central Committee has Bush/Cheney yard signs and bumper stickers available to residents.

The campaign items will be distributed from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at 148 E. Main St., Westminster.

The committee also is accepting applications from Republican voters in Carroll County for a vacancy. Applications and resumes should be sent to P.O. Box 2108, Westminster 21158 by Aug. 27.

County seeks applicants for Commission on Aging

The Carroll County commissioners are seeking additional resumes and letters of interest for a Manchester-area vacancy to the Commission on Aging.

The commission's responsibilities include:

Reviewing, evaluating and commenting on area plan objectives, as drafted by staff.

Serving as a steering committee for prioritization of programs to be funded.

Bringing before the bureau the needs and issues of resident senior citizens.

Developing positions on legislation.

Advising the commissioners on programs and fiscal matters relating to the bureau and funding of programs and services for senior citizens.

The commission is a 15-member group, and each member serves a three-year term. The next meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 8 at the Westminster Senior Center and is open to the public.

Event organizers may offer information for calendar

The Carroll County Tourism Office is preparing its Tourism Calendar of Events for next year.

The calendar will cover events from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31. Inclusion is free. The tourism office will print and distribute 100,000 copies around the county and state.

Organizations are invited to submit information about their activities for next year. To be included in the calendar, events must take place in Carroll County, be a tourism-related event and draw at least 300 people.

Event locations that are indicated to be handicapped accessible must meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. For information on ADA requirements, call 410-386-2113.

Application forms with instructions are available at the tourism office. Deadline for applications is Sept. 17.

RideShare program matches commuters

Residents of Carroll and Baltimore counties can save time and money by participating in the RideShare program.

The free RideShare program offers a car or van pool matching system for workers.

Both counties have park-and-ride lots where carpoolers can meet. Carroll has seven lots on the east side of the county from Mount Airy to Manchester.
