Anne Arundel County police charged a Severna Park man yesterday in the rape of a woman who was walking along the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail on Tuesday evening.

Harvey Edward Brown, 28, was arrested at his home Wednesday afternoon after the victim provided details about the attacker, including that he had a heart-shaped tattoo on his right shoulder, police spokesman Lt. Joseph E. Jordan said Wednesday.

Brown was taken before Anne Arundel District Judge Essom V. Ricks Jr. for a bail review hearing yesterday and was being held without bail at the county detention center on Jennifer Road.

The victim, a 24-year-old Bowie resident, reported that she was attacked about 7 p.m. Tuesday while walking along the trail between McKinsey and Jones Station roads in Severna Park.

Jordan said the attacker approached the victim from behind, displayed a knife and forced her into the woods, where he sexually assaulted her.
