Storm cuts power to 33,000 in area

August 12, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The strong but brief storm that struck the Baltimore area yesterday afternoon disrupted power to at least 33,000 homes and businesses, dumped as much as an inch of rain in some areas and contributed to several auto accidents, authorities reported.

By 10:30 p.m., power had been restored to all but 8,300 Baltimore Gas & Electric customers, most of them in Anne Arundel County.

Baltimore, Anne Arundel and Howard counties were hit hardest, BGE spokeswoman Linda Foy said.

Power was expected to be fully restored by midafternoon today, she said.
