Arundel Arundel police identify suspect in rape on B&A trail

August 12, 2004

Anne Arundel County police said yesterday that they had identified a suspect in the rape of a woman who had been walking along the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail on Tuesday night.

A county man was taken into custody at his home yesterday afternoon based on a description given by the victim, including a prominent tattoo, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph E. Jordan. Police said last night that the man had not been charged.

The victim, a 24-year-old Bowie resident, reported that she was attacked by a man about 7 p.m. Tuesday while walking along the trail between McKinsey and Jones Station roads in Severna Park.

Jordan said the attacker approached the victim from behind, displayed a knife and forced her into the woods, where he sexually assaulted her.
