August 12, 2004

The man believed responsible for a string of local robberies has been arrested and charged, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday.

Derrick Christopher Lanham, 38, of no fixed address was arrested Aug. 3 outside a Bowie home in connection with seven armed robberies, two other robberies and a felony theft over the last three months in the county, said police spokesman Lt. Joseph E. Jordan.

Court records show Lanham has lived at a number of locations in Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties.

Police said the suspect used a BB gun and a small handgun in targeting some stores multiple times, including a beauty supply store in Glen Burnie and a convenience mart in Laurel.

The most recent armed robbery took place Aug. 3 at a Cigarette Depot on Parke West Drive.
