Rangers update

On Sunday, it looked like Texas was in trouble. In a span of 10 days, the Rangers had gone from 4 1/2 games ahead in the American League West to 1 1/2 games behind the Oakland Athletics. But the Rangers swept three games at Detroit this week, and when the A's lost to the New York Yankees yesterday, Texas found itself back in first place. Besides their vaunted infield, the Rangers have some exciting young outfielders, as well. Lance Nix went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and made two big plays in center field on Wednesday. Kevin Mench is batting .262, and former Oriole Gary Matthews has found a home in Texas, batting .280.
