Candidate says he won't convict based on traffic cameras

August 06, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

A candidate for Anne Arundel County Circuit Court judge said yesterday that he would not convict a motorist based on red-light or speed cameras.

Stephen P. Beatty, an assistant public defender in Baltimore, said in a written statement that the cameras have low credibility.

He is one of six judicial candidates on the November ballot for three seats on the bench. Sitting Judges David S. Bruce, Michele D. Jaklitsch and Rodney C. Warren are also being challenged by Paul G. Goetzke, counsel to Annapolis' mayor, and Paul F. Harris, who is in private practice.
