Council and guild to open members' exhibit Thursday

The Carroll County Arts Council and the Carroll County Artists Guild will hold its second Members Art Exhibit from Thursday to Sept. 26 in the Tevis Gallery at the Carroll Arts Center.

An opening reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The public is welcome to meet the artists and view the works on display. Refreshments will be provided by the artists guild, and the Westminster Trombone Choir will perform.

More than 100 entries have been accepted for the exhibit, which features paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and fine crafts. Most works are for sale.

Artwork will be judged by Lisa Lewenz, the program director for Maryland Art Place, and artist and educator Edda Jakab. Artistic Excellence awards will be presented at the reception.

Iron Ridge to perform bluegrass at arts center

The Iron Ridge bluegrass band, which won the annual Fiddler's Convention in June, will perform its foot-stomping music at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Carroll Arts Center.

The band's recordings include Live at Arcadia, On and On, Down by the River and My Little Cabin Home.

Tickets are $10 for adults, and $8 for arts council members, seniors 60 and older and children younger than 12.

State youth orchestras schedule auditions

The Maryland Youth Symphony Orchestra and Maryland Youth Symphonette will hold auditions Aug. 21 to Sept. 18 at the Catonsville campus of the Community College of Baltimore County.

In September, MYSO will begin its 41st season under the direction of founder and conductor Angelo Gatto. The orchestra provides the opportunity for talented young musicians to learn and perform major symphonic repertoire at a professional level.

Rehearsals for both orchestras will be held Saturdays at the Catonsville campus.

Afternoon of music set at Hanover center

The Eichelberger Performing Arts Center in Hanover, Pa., has scheduled a performance of jazz, oldies and big band music at 3 p.m. Aug. 22.

Performers will be Danny and the Juniors and Pastime. Tickets are $24 and $29.

The center is at 195 Stock St.
