On Saturday, July 31, 2004, GESINE La BARRE passed peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones after her long struggle with Alzheimers Disease. Born on June 1, 1919 in Baltimore to John and Catherine Eberhart, she was the youngest of five daughters. She wed her true love and surviving husband, Theodore D. La Barre, on Valentine's Day 1937. Prior to her stay at Augsburg Lutheran Home, the couple lived in Ferndale for 46 years. A beloved mother and an incredible cook, she also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and was an avaid card player. After her husband's retirement from Western Electric, the couple spent the winter months in their home in Melbourne, FL, Gesine is survived by her son, Ted La Barre Jr., of Phoenix, AZ, and her daughter, Patricia Bussey of Severn, MD. She was a devoted grandmother "Nan" to Ted La Barre III, Terry Pruitt, Heather Witt and Jill Bussey and was also adored by six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Besides her husband and children, Gesine is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Nilles of Bel Air, Ida Kowalczyk of Baltimore, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Jones of Baltimore and Catherine Walker of Brooklyn. The family will receive visitors at Singleton Funeral Home, P.A., 1 Second Avenue, S.W., (at Crain Highway) Glen Burnie on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 1 P. M in the funeral home chapel. Interment Lorraine Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Alzheimers Association of Maryland, 1850 York Roiad, Suite D, Timonium, MD, 21093 or to the Augsburg Lutheran Home, 6811 Campfield Road, Baltimore, MD, 21207.
