North Arundel offers exhibits, screenings at Arundel Mills

North Arundel Hospital will offer screenings and educational exhibits at its Arundel Mills storefront, between Jillian's and entrance 4:

Today, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., blood pressure screenings.

Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., neck and shoulder massages; 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., computerized neck and back screenings.

Monday, 9 a.m. to 10:30 am., blood pressure screenings.

Aug. 10, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

Aug. 11, 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., information on diabetes and diet.

Aug. 12, 10 a.m. to noon, back screenings.

Aug. 16, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., county Department of Aging will offer information on its services.

Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., foot screenings.

North Arundel Hospital will offer screenings, educational exhibits and other events at various locations in the county:

Today, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., free depression and anxiety lecture and screenings at Pasadena Senior Center.

Thursday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., blood pressure screenings in the hospital's main lobby.

Friday, 10 a.m. to noon, free cancer risk assessment screening in the Cancer Research Center, first floor, Tate Cancer Center. 410-553-8129.

Friday, 9 a.m., O'Malley Marchers annual walking celebration at the Wheels Skating Rink in Odenton.

Aug. 11, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., cholesterol screening at Pascal Senior Center.

Aug. 18, 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Joslin Circle, a diabetes support group. Meets to discuss issues regarding diabetes at Joslin Diabetes Center, lower level. 410-787-4940.

Red Cross offers class on crime avoidance

Red Cross of Central Maryland offers a class called "Crime Avoidance Training," interactive training focusing on empowering individuals to take responsibility for their safety. The class, organized around a typical day, covers security awareness, tough-target strategies, safety on the move, using an automated teller machine and responding to threatening situations. Instructors will come to a facility, group or organization at a time that is convenient for the group. A minimum of 10 people is required. The fee is $9.95 per person. Medical center expands blood donation schedule

The Anne Arundel Medical Center Blood Donor Center has announced an expanded appointment schedule.

The blood bank will now be open for appointments:

Mondays from 7:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Tuesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. (evening hours by appointment).

Wednesdays from 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (evening hours by appointment).

Thursdays from 7:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Fridays from 7:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

The donor center is on Level 1 of the Acute Care Pavilion, 2001 Medical Parkway. To make an appointment: 443-481-4215 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Red Cross seeks volunteers for summer blood drives

The Red Cross Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services region is seeking youths to work as volunteers at blood drives this summer. Teens 14 or older can earn service learning credits and develop job skills by helping the blood collections staff. Training is provided.

Volunteers will welcome donors to the reception area and help care for them in the refreshment area after donation. A commitment of 40 hours over the summer is required. Blood drives last four to six hours and are held daily around the state.

Volunteers will help with blood drives in Baltimore and in Anne Arundel, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. Registration for training: 800-272-0094, Ext. 1; or e-mail karlofft@usa.
