Andrews receives Hadassah award for health program

Caryn Scheinberg Andrews has received the 18th annual Hadassah National Leadership Award, which was presented June 8 at the organization's membership gala at Beth Shalom Congregation in Columbia.

Andrews, a nurse, initiated and directed "Check It Out," an educational program on breast and testicular cancer for Howard County high school juniors and seniors.

Parr of Clarksville named to pension board

Christopher P. Parr, vice president and principal of Columbia-based Financial Advantage Inc., has received an executive appointment to serve a five-year term as a volunteer member of the Howard County Pension Oversight Commission.

The appointment was approved by the Howard County Council and made by County Executive James N. Robey.

Parr, who lives in Clarksville, is a certified financial planner and was named as one of Worth magazine's Best Financial Advisers for 1998-2003.

The five-member Pension Oversight Commission monitors the combined pension plans of county, police and fire department employees.

Shaffer of Columbia joins Halpin law firm

Amanda Shaffer of Columbia has joined the law offices of Kirk Halpin & Associates PA as a business and real estate paralegal.

The Columbia law office provides legal assistance in real estate, banking, bankruptcy, collection, business startup and general litigation.
