On July 29, 2004, SR. M. GEMMA BAMBRICK, MHSH, died at The Villa, a care facility for the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart and the Sisters of Mercy, on Bellona Ave. in Baltimore. Sr. Gemma was born in Roscommon, Ireland on May 11, 1912, one of four children of James and Katherine (Mc Laughlin) Bambrick. Sister Gemma was preceded in death by her sister Margaret and her brothers, Thomas and James. She is still cherished in Ireland by a loving family of nieces and nephews and their children, who have remained devoted to Sr. Gemma and by her sisters in community, the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart in Towson, MD. Sr. Gemma's life as a missionary spanned 71 years and many missions from Colorado to Puerto Rico. Her last 16 years were spent in Boston ministering to the elderly in nursing homes and the senior citizen complex where she lived. Although she continued her missionary work into her retirement years, Sr. Gemma had an insatiable love for life and enjoyed the cultural opportunities the city offered. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 P.M. at The Villa, 6806 Bellona Ave. The Christian Wake Service will be at 7 P.M. on Sunday. The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 2, at 11 A.M. in The Villa Chapel. Interment New Cathedral Cemetery.
