Mosey on over to the 'burbs this weekend for a couple of down-home farm fairs.

The Harford County Farm Fair kicks off today and runs through Sunday at the Equestrian Center in Bel Air, and the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair takes place Saturday through Aug. 6 at the Carroll County Agriculture Center in Westminster.

The old-fashioned country farm fair in Harford County features 4-H and Future Farmers of America exhibits, as well as livestock judging and auctions.

There will be live music, food and crafts for sale, pony rides, a costumed-animal parade, kids activities and games, a moon bounce and more.

Tonight, the first evening of the Harford County fair, a fireworks show begins at 9:15 p.m.

Other activities include sheep dog herding demonstrations, horse shows, rabbit shows, hog shows, steer shows and goat shows.

Visitors can also watch pig races, as well as Jack Russell terrier races, a mule-jumping contest, archery, truck and tractor pulls, antique tractor follies and horseshoe pitching.

Also, folks can catch a rooster-crowing contest and participate in a watermelon-eating contest, pie-eating contest and a spelling bee.

Not tired out yet?

Visitors can play a little barnyard bingo, get their second wind and head out to the rodeo at 2 p.m. Sunday. The rodeo features wild-cow milking challenges and bull hockey for the adults, and a calf scramble and sheep-riding challenge for the kids.

Still want more? Then head west for more boot-scootin' fun. The Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair in Westminster features a week of family-farm activities, animal exhibits, farming demonstrations, music, food and more. And each day will have its own farm-related theme.

Beginning Saturday, the fair offers exhibits from 4-H and FFA members, including a petting farm, a kids pedal pull and a garden tractor pull.

Beginning at 5 p.m., a Family Fun Fest presents contests, including a treasure hunt, an adorable-baby contest, a milkshake-mustache contest, a pie-eating contest and a watermelon seed-spitting contest.

On Sunday, a 4-H and FFA parade will begin at 6 p.m., with a Farm Bureau Ambassador contest at 8 p.m.

Other events include an English-horse show, a horse pull, a huge cake auction, live radio broadcasts by WQSR-FM each day, a farm fashion show, line dancing and pig races.
