Rotary club donates $1,000 to Rouse fund

The Rotary Club of Columbia-Patuxent Inc. awarded the Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund a $1,000 donation last month.

Mary E. Becker, the fund's executive director, and Tony Salazar, its president, received the donation at the club's awards breakfast June 25 at the Columbia Hilton hotel.

The organization will use the donation to benefit its U.S. 1 corridor revitalization initiative and its loan initiative for minority, female and foreign-born entrepreneurs.

The Rotary Club of Columbia-Patuxent Inc. (www.columbia patuxentrotary.com) was chartered in 1986 and has 60 members. Since 1989, when the club established a charitable trust to donate money to local organizations and individuals, more than $500,000 has been distributed.

The Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund - a private, not-for-profit source of support for start-up companies in Howard County - offers business loans of $5,000 to $100,000. It also works with strategic partners to offer assistance to small and emerging companies that are focused on business advising, planning and education.
