Fireworks, rodeo shows and pig races are some of the many events scheduled for the 17th annual Harford County Farm Fair this week.

Cynthia Warner, 4-H educator for Harford County, estimates that 50,000 to 80,000 people will attend the four-day event. The money raised by the fair will be used to sponsor the program again next year, she said.

The fair will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Equestrian Center on Tollgate Road in Bel Air.

Thursday's events will include a 4-H dog show, barnyard bingo, magic show, antique tractor pull and other activities.

4-H rabbit and hog shows, Punch and Judy puppets, structural concrete truck and tractor pulls and the Texas swing band Los Calamari are some of the events scheduled for Friday.

Saturday's events will include a farm baby costume contest, talent show, oxen demonstration and a watermelon eating contest. Sunday's events will include horseshoe pitching, Harford County Sheriff's Office canine unit demonstration and a fresh-baked peach pie contest.

Tickets will cost $5 Thursday and Sunday and $7 Friday and Saturday. Children ages 5 through 12 will pay $3; children younger than age 5 will be admitted free.

The Cecil County Fair is running today through Aug. 1. A pony show, a chili cook-off, a 4-H float parade and a pie-eating contest are among the many activities scheduled for the event.

The Cecil County fair will be held at the Fair Hill Fairgrounds in Elkton.
