Bayhawks tonight

Matchup: Bayhawks (4-3) at Long Island Lizards (4-3)

Site: Mitchel Field, Uniondale, N.Y.

Time: 7:30

Outlook: These two perennial Major League Lacrosse powerhouses are struggling in their bids to retain division titles, with the Bayhawks leading Rochester by a half game and Long Island trailing Boston by 2 1/2 . They will meet again tomorrow night at Towson University to conclude an unusual back-to-back arrangement caused by postponements on June 25 and July 2. Tomorrow's game can be heard live at 7 on WJFK Radio and seen via tape delay on Channel 2 at 11:35 p.m. The regular-season series is tied at three wins and the Lizards own a 2-1 edge in the post-season, thanks to last year's 15-14 overtime victory for the MLL title. The Bayhawks are coming off a 16-14 win at New Jersey in which they had to rally from an early 8-2 deficit. Goalie Rob Scherr (Hopkins) was the hero, getting his first career win by making 18 stops in the final 47 minutes. Mark Millon (38 points) and player-coach Gary Gait (34), who scored his first career two-pointer at New Jersey, both rank in the MLL's top 10 in scoring. The Lizards will be without leading assist man Kevin Lowe, who is out for the season with a knee injury, but still have reigning MLL MVP Jay Jalbert and leading scorer Tim Goettelmann (29 points). Goalie Brian Dougherty has averaged 29 saves over a three-game stretch.
