Renewed purpose

Industrial and commercial scraps have been recycled into works of art in Surplus, a new show at Area 405. The exhibit, which features a number of pieces made from old materials left in a local warehouse, is on view through Aug. 1.

Body of art

The human form is the focus of Go Figure, a mixed-media show at the Maryland Federation of Art's Circle Gallery in Annapolis. Judged by the National Gallery of Art's Dr. Wilford E. Scott, the show runs through Aug. 8.

Ancient Olympics

The Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore-Piraeus Sister City Committee will present a slide lecture, Heroes of the Ancient Games, tomorrow at the museum. Dr. Sabine Albersmeier, assistant curator of ancient art, will discuss artistic representations of the ancient Greek Olympics at the 7 p.m. program, which begins with a reception that includes light appetizers. Tickets are $15.
