Now's the time to enjoy Maryland's fresh summer fruits and vegetables. But if you slacked off this year on planting, then harvesting your own homegrown foods may be a problem.

Never fear: Pick-your-own farms offer an easy solution.

They may not be as convenient as a backyard plot, but these local sites can still provide tasty fresh-from-the-field produce - and you'll get the satisfying experience of gathering your own grub.

The following is a LIVE guide to some area locations, where everything from tiny blueberries to hearty beets abound.

Please note that field conditions can change suddenly - so call ahead.

BALTIMORE COUNTY

Huber's Family Produce Farm

Bring your own container to collect red beets, squash, beans, cucumbers and blackberries. The cost is $1 per pound for all pick-your-own crops. Huber's Farm is at 12208 Old Philadelphia Road, Bradshaw. Fields are open 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. For more information, call 410-679-1948.

CARROLL COUNTY

Baugher's Orchard

A tractor will take you to the orchard for peach-picking at this Carroll County location. Prices are by the boxful and a number of different container sizes are available on site.

FREDERICK COUNTY

Catoctin Mountain Orchard

Pryor's Orchard

Blueberries are ripe, but call ahead to ensure availability.

HARFORD COUNTY

Brad's Produce

Pick your own green beans at this picturesque Harford County farm. The veggies run 60 cents per pound, and containers are provided.

Shaw Orchards

This orchard's blueberry bushes were still heavy with fruit at press time. Call in advance to ensure availability.

HOWARD COUNTY

Larriland Farm

This farm has a wide variety of fruits and vegetables for picking, including blueberries, red and purple raspberries and red and yellow beets.

The farm, which also has flowers for cutting, will offer pick-your-own plums, blackberries, peaches and nectarines later in the season.
