Child care sessions offered by county for parents, professionals

Howard County Child Care Resource Center sponsors a continuing series of workshops for parents and childcare and early childhood professionals.

A workshop presented by the Howard County Health Department, "When to Call the Doctor," will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at the offices of the Child Care Resource Center, 3300 North Ridge Road, Suite 380, Ellicott City. The cost is $10.

"Making the Parent Connection," a workshop on including parents in children's learning, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. The cost is $20.

"Family Child Care 103: Record Keeping," a workshop on keeping business records presented by Vickie Scrivener, will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. July 28. The cost is $20.

School board to hold capital projects hearing

The Howard County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on the fiscal year 2006 capital budget and the fiscal years 2007-2011 capital improvement program at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.

The hearing will be held during the evening session of the regular board meeting at the Department of Education, 10910 Route 108, Ellicott City.

The evening session, and the afternoon session, which starts at 4 p.m., will begin with a public forum, during which members of the public can address the board on any topic for which there is no formal public hearing process.

The board welcomes public participation.

Sign-up in advance is preferred. Those who want to testify at the hearing are asked to limit their presentation to three minutes and provide 15 written copies of their testimony at the time of the hearing.

ADHD support group offers meetings for parents

CHADD of Greater Baltimore sponsors a support group for parents of children diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD.

Meetings are held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Loyola College Graduate Center, 8890 McGaw Road, Columbia.

The meetings are open to the public.

Parent to Parent seeks mentors, participants

Parent to Parent of Howard and Baltimore counties matches parents of children with special needs with other parents for one-on-one support.

The group is looking for mentors and inviting parents who might like to participate.

Parks department offers two-week traveling camp

Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks is offering its second "Teens on Tour" summer camp - two weeks of traveling to amusement parks and other destinations in and out of Maryland and an overnight stay in a hotel. The session is to start Aug. 2.

The cost is $425, including transportation, supervision, admission to attractions, the overnight hotel stay and a commemorative camp T-shirt.
