Roxanna Lane Powell, a retired officer in a family-owned trucking business, died in her sleep Friday at her Centreville home. She was 88.
Born Roxanna Palmer Lane in Stevensville, she was a 1933 graduate of Centreville High School and earned a business and secretarial degree at the former Beacom College in Wilmington, Del.
She worked for Diamond Oil Co. for six years, then returned to Centreville to marry Royden N. Powell Jr. in 1941. She was secretary and treasurer of her husband's trucking business there. Mr. Powell died in 2000.
Mrs. Powell was a member of the Kent Island Yacht Club and its ladies auxiliary, and the Kent Island Heritage Society. She enjoyed gardening, boating and knitting.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Centreville United Methodist Church, where she was a member, former church secretary and a member of United Methodist Women.
Survivors include a son, Royden Nathan Powell III of Centreville; two daughters, Jane Powell Coppage of Centreville and Anne Lane Powell of Berlin; a brother, H. Collison Lane of Centreville; a sister, Phyllis L. Marvel of Ridgely; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
