Royals update

Last place in the American League Central appears to be reserved for Kansas City, a team that ranks as one of the season's biggest disappointments after making a surprising run at the playoffs in 2003 under first-year manager Tony Pena. The roster has undergone a major upheaval since the season began. Outfielders Juan Gonzalez and Aaron Guiel, third baseman Joe Randa and catcher Benito Santiago were injured. Center fielder Carlos Beltran and reliever Jason Grimsley were traded. Reliever Curtis Leskanic was released and closer Mike MacDougal was demoted to the minors. The Orioles took three of four from the Royals at Kauffman Stadium last month, but lost two of three at home before the All-Star break.
