Royals update

The season has gone from bad to worse for the Royals, who possess the fewest wins in the American League. And there are no signs of improvement. They've lost eight in a row and 13 of 14. The Minnesota Twins shut out the Royals in three straight games to sweep their series, outscoring Kansas City, 25-0. The Royals batted .149 and were blanked in three consecutive games for the first time in their 36-year history. They've scored one run in their past four games, on a homer by Ken Harvey in the ninth inning of Sunday's loss in San Diego. Outfielder Ruben Mateo was acquired from the Pirates last Friday. First baseman Mike Sweeney has missed a week because of tightness in his back. He hopes to play in this series. The Orioles took three of four from Kansas City last week at Kauffman Stadium.
