Howard County increases fines for parking violations

July 09, 2004|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

The signs have not changed yet, but illegally parking in a handicapped spot in Howard County will cost $150 instead of $98 once the new warning signs are in place, county officials have announced.

Signs on public property should be changed by Aug. 1. Private property owners can get free stickers warning of the fine increase at the Ellicott City and Route 216 police stations.

All Howard County parking fines increased July 1, with most rising from $24 to $35 for 31 routine violations.

Fines for parking in a fire lane jumped from $34 to $50 and for parking within 15 feet of a fire hydrant or in a loading zone from $24 to $40.
