Meet the Band

FYI: pop culture news

July 08, 2004|By Sarah Schaffer

Hometown: Baltimore

Current Members: Cris Jacobs, guitar and vocals; Kenny Liner, mandolin and vocal percussion; Ryan Porter, bass and vocals; Adam Iorfida, saxophone; Paul Weinberg, drums.

Founded In: 2001

Style: jam-rock

Influenced by: the Grateful Dead and other improvisational bands

Notable: This five-piece was formed just a few years ago, but already it's gained a following and a reputation as one of the mid-Atlantic region's most promising acts.

To help solidify their foothold in the East Coast jam-band scene, the Bridge will play a number of well-known music festivals this season, including nu-hippie happenings such as West Virginia's All Good Summer Festival & Camp Out and SmileFest in Union Grove, N.C.

Quotable: Jacobs on the Bridge's quick ascent: "It's really like moving kind of fast, and it's great that there's such an appreciation for people trying to deliver honest music. People have just really given us a chance. They're the reason that we continue to be inspired to do it. [And] to have people pay for and enjoy our music is amazing -- it's already surpassed my expectations, and we haven't even really gone anywhere yet."

Check out the Bridge Wednesday when the band plays a show at the Funk Box. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $7. The Funk Box is at 10 E. Cross St. Call 410-625-2000 or visit www.thefunkbox.com. The Bridge will continue its monthlong Funk Box residency with two more gigs on July 21 and 28.
