Daniel William Betz, 57, Balto. County firefighter

Daniel William Betz, a retired Baltimore County firefighter, died apparently of a heart attack Wednesday at his Linthicum home. He was 57.

Born in Baltimore and raised in Morrell Park and Linthicum, he was a 1966 graduate of Andover High School. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park.

He joined the Baltimore County Fire Department in 1972 and served at Station Five on Washington Boulevard in Halethorpe.

He retired in 1990.

Mr. Betz also had a welding business, and he enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family.

He was a member of St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Linthicum.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Gary Kaufman Funeral Home, 7250 Washington Blvd. in Elkridge.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, the former Linda Lee Hewes; a son, Brian Betz of Key West, Fla.; a daughter, Lisa Zenker of Severna Park; three brothers, Richard Betz of Ferndale, Donald Betz of Owings Mills and Roland Betz of Elkridge; two sisters, Lorraine Eckart of Woodstock and Sharyn Clark of Fort Mill, S.C.; and two grandchildren.
