Gunman wounds man, shoots self in Anne Arundel

July 01, 2004

A gunman wounded another man and then shot himself last night in the Freetown neighborhood near Harundale, Anne Arundel County police said.

The men - whose names were not immediately divulged - were shot about 8:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of Liberty Circle in the north county community and were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said police Capt. Tim Bowman.

Bowman said the men had a long-standing dispute and were involved in an altercation with each other earlier in the day.

The man who was wounded was shot in the chest and was reported in serious condition at Shock Trauma.

The gunman, who shot himself in the head, was pronounced brain-dead at Shock Trauma, Bowman said.

FOR THE RECORD - Because of incorrect information provided by Anne Arundel County police, an article that appeared in some editions yesterday erroneously reported that a man who had shot himself Wednesday night near Harundale had died. The man, Darien Lateef Hudson, survived.
The Sun regrets the errors.
