Police are investigating the killing of a 46-year-old man who was shot several times late Monday in a home in the North Baltimore neighborhood of Govans.
Burnette Edwards of the 700 block of Glenwood Ave. was shot about 10:20 p.m. in the 600 block of McCabe Ave., police spokesman Agent Donny Moses said. Edwards was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11 p.m.
Police know of no motive for the killing and had no suspects, Moses said yesterday.
Edwards is the 134th homicide victim this year in Baltimore. At this time last year, there had been 142 homicides.
Two men in cocaine ring sentenced to prison terms
Two city men convicted of drug crimes involving a major East Baltimore cocaine ring were sentenced to prison terms yesterday in Circuit Court.
Barry Martin, 29, of the 2300 block of Eutaw St. was sentenced to 20 years in prison for conspiracy and intent to distribute cocaine. Co-defendant Tyrone Jackson, 34, of the 1400 block of Saratoga St. was given seven years for conspiracy to possess cocaine.
A jury found the men guilty in May after prosecutors linked them to a drug ring led by convicted kingpin Howard Peppers. The charges stem from a seven-month wiretap investigation in 2002 and 2003, which ended with 11 people pleading guilty to various drug counts.
Jury finds man guilty of fatal stabbing in 2003
A Baltimore City jury found a 28-year-old city man guilty of second-degree murder this week in a fatal stabbing on Druid Hill Avenue last year.
Robert Harris also was found guilty of carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure, prosecutors said.
On July 2, Harris went to Eric Elliott's home in the 2200 block of Druid Hill Ave., accompanied by several other men. The other men kicked down Elliott's door, and Harris stabbed Elliott, 31, in the back four times, prosecutors said.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled Sept. 8.
Man, 32, gets 11 years in prison in armed robbery
A 32-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced yesterday to 11 years in prison followed by four years of supervised release after pleading guilty in federal court last month to armed robbery.
