On June 21, 2004 JAMES MACKAY BALLARD, age 60, formerly of Limerick, PA., died at Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown, PA., after a lingering illness. A graduate of Germantown Friends School, in Philadelphia, he was a life-long student and a self-educated scholar, philosopher. His family and friends treasured the creative flair in his writing, story-telling, handicrafts and artwork. Although unable to work as an electronics engineer in recent years, he had previously been employed in Boston, Milwaukee and his native Philadelphia. He lived with schizophrenia, courageously and with humor. He was committed to creating a better, more just and more humane world and saw the law courts as a vehicle to his goal. Pre-deceased by his loving mother, Mary Katherine Thorp Ballard, Jim will be sadly missed by his father Warren M. Ballard, and step-mother Anne H. Ballard, both for many years of Philadelphia, now of Charlestown Retirement Community, Catonsville, MD., his three sisters Elizabeth Thorp Ballard, of Ottowa, Canada, Mary Warren Ballard Jenkins of Hagerstown, MD., and Margaret Myers Ballard of Alexandria, VA., and his step-sisters, nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Kirk & Nice Funeral Home, Inc., @ George Washington Memorial Park.
