Man sentenced to 15 years for cocaine possession

A 26-year-old Baltimore man was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison yesterday for possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, according to the U.S. attorneys office. Tevon Cornelius Gray pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court on March 8. He had been convicted twice earlier on drug distribution charges. Gray, who was arrested Dec. 12, 2002, in the 1800 block of Presstman St., was preparing crack for street sale when police entered the house, prosecutors said. Judge Catherine C. Blake sentenced Gray to 188 months in prison, followed by four years of supervised release.The entrance ramp from eastbound O'Donnell Street onto southbound Interstate 895 is to be closed to traffic tomorrow from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Weather permitting, contractors plan to remove trees in the area, forcing motorists to take a detour to the westbound O'Donnell Street entrance ramp.

The right lane of southbound I-895 is expected to be closed from Lombard Street to O'Donnell Street.

Sign-up for English class for adults is next week

Greater Homewood Community Corp. will register adult students for classes in English as a second language from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.

Students must register and be tested to enroll in the classes. Fees, which depend on the student's ability level, range from $20 to $180.

Classes will run for 10 weeks, from the week of July 12 through Aug. 30, with morning and evening sessions available for beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. They will be held in the basement of University Baptist Church, 3501 N. Charles St.

Family offers reward for information on killing

WOODLAWN - The family of a man killed 19 years ago has offered a reward of up to $7,000 for information about the crime. The body of Stuart Bruce McKenzie was found April 28, 1985, in a wooded area near Woodlawn Memorial Park.

County police said the victim died of blunt force trauma to the head and that McKenzie knew the assailant. Detectives have continued to investigate the killing but have exhausted most of their leads.

The family offered the reward through Metro Crime Stoppers. Anyone with information is asked to call Baltimore County Police at 410-307-2020 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 866-756-2587.

Specialists to offer tips on avoiding identity theft

ESSEX - Specialists with tips about preventing identity theft will speak at 8 a.m. Tuesday at Jaznick's Restaurant, 210 Back River Neck Road.

The Essex-Middle River-White Marsh Chamber of Commerce will be host of the breakfast meeting, which is open to the public and will feature Baltimore County police Capt. Jeff Rosier, and Laura Winpigler, a local bank executive.

Wine, music festival set this weekend at fairgrounds

TIMONIUM - A wine and music festival will be held this weekend on the infield of the state fairgrounds. It will feature wine sampling, music, food and more than 100 artists and craftsmen.

The festival will be held from noon to 9 p.m. tomorrow and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Tickets, which are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate, include the musical performances, cooking seminars, a souvenir wine glass and 10 wine samplings.
