1 killed, 2 injured in collision on I-83

One man was killed and two other people were seriously injured when two cars collided yesterday morning on Interstate 83 in Hunt Valley, state police reported.

The crash occurred about 2:05 a.m. north of Shawan Road when the male driver of a 2001 Acura Integra, headed north at high speed, lost control of the car and struck a northbound 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse, police said. Both vehicles spun out of control and came to rest in the roadway.

One occupant of the Acura was pronounced dead at the scene, while another occupant of the Acura and the driver of the Mitsubishi were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. They were listed in serious condition, police said.

Police could not say last night whether it was the driver or passenger in the Acura who died. Names were withheld until family members could be notified.
