UNIONVILLE - A 3-year-old boy was killed Saturday after falling from a tractor he was riding with his father and becoming trapped under one of the wheels, state police said.

The boy, Brian Horton of the 14900 block of Liberty Road, was riding with his father on a John Deere tractor through a field when one of the front tires struck a hole that was covered with hay, police said.

The tractor shook violently, throwing the boy from his father's lap. He fell to the ground and became trapped under one of the rear wheels, police said.

The father was able to remove the tractor from the boy. Fire and rescue workers from the Winfield and Libertytown fire departments provided medical assistance at the scene, and the boy was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m., police said.
