Salisbury loses Div. III opener, 8-3


APPLETON, Wis. - Salisbury University dropped an 8-3 decision to George Fox (Ore.) University last night in the opening round of the NCAA Division III World Series.

The Sea Gulls (36-12) will face Wisconsin-Whitewater in an elimination game today at 2:45 p.m.

Salisbury managed just five hits against George Fox All-American Scott Hyde, who threw a complete game and struck out 13.

The Sea Gulls scored single runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings.

Sophomore first baseman Nick Pegelow's RBI single brought home Salisbury's first run in the fourth, and junior outfielder Mike Williams added an RBI double in the seventh.

Salisbury scored its last run on a groundout in the eighth inning.

Starter Greg Lasinski (11-3) suffered the loss for the Sea Gulls.
