Tigers update

Detroit stopped a three-game losing streak yesterday with a 17-7 win over the Kansas City Royals. The Tigers had the majors' worst record last season, but they're only two games below .500 this year. One of the new additions, Alex Sanchez, had four hits yesterday to raise his average to .373, second in the American League behind Melvin Mora. He has 19 bunt hits. The once-stagnant offense is rejuvenated with Sanchez, Ivan Rodriguez, Carlos Guillen and Rondell White joining the Tigers over the winter. Detroit pitchers had a 2.71 ERA in 15 games before yesterday, and foes were batting .227. Johnson will face his former team, which didn't tender him a contract after the 2003 season. The teams split six games last season, with the Orioles sweeping Detroit at Comerica Park. The Orioles have lost one season series to the Tigers since 1994 and are 47-27 against them in the past seven years.
