Fiddlers' Convention set for June 6

Farm museum gathering features singers, musicians

The Carroll County Farm Museum will hold its annual Fiddlers' Convention from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 6, featuring 10 hours of entertainment by musicians and vocalists competing for more than $3,000 in cash prizes.

Musicians may register for the competition beginning at 8 a.m. the day of the event.

Musical competition prize categories are Bluegrass Band, Old Time Band, Bluegrass Fiddle, Old Time Fiddle, Bluegrass Banjo, Old Time Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin, Vocalist (solo), Bass Fiddle, Dobro, Clogging, Young Performer, and Special Performer, including bagpipes, autoharp, dulcimer and flute.

The Carroll County Cloggers will perform between music competitions. Bob Parilla & Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band will also perform.

Visitors are encouraged to wander the grounds to listen to the musicians and vocalists jamming together and practicing for their performances.

Food will be sold all day, including fried chicken, Polish sausage, hot dogs and sauerkraut, funnel cake, ice cream and snowballs. Craftspeople will sell a variety of items, including wood crafts, art on slate and antiques.

Calico Farms will be on the grounds with its alpacas and alpaca products. The Carroll County Artists Guild will hold an art show.

The farmhouse will be open for guided tours, and the Living History Center and exhibit buildings will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Museum Gift Shop will be open and stocked with candy, souvenirs, museum memorabilia, handmade items, toys and collectibles.

Admission at the gate is $8 for adults and senior citizens; and, if accompanied by a paying adult, $2 for children ages 7 to 18 and free for kids 6 and younger. Children younger than 18 who are unaccompanied will be charged as an adult. Museum memberships will be honored.

Adult tickets may be bought in advance for $6 from Coffey Music, Stu's Music Shop, Music Gear and the farm museum, all in Westminster.
