Billie Holiday birthday

Mark the birthday of Baltimore-born legend Billie Holiday tomorrow with a concert at the New Haven Lounge.

The blues singer, who died in 1959 at the age of 44, will be commemorated in song by the Jump Street Band and past winners of the mayor's Billie Holiday vocal competition.

Admission is free for this 9:30 p.m. event.

Death metal effect

Get a dose of death metal this weekend at the Thunderdome.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday nights, the Maryland Death Fest will feature more than 25 bands, including Macabre and Last Days of Humanity, that typify the dark and heavy genre.

This all-ages event runs from 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. both days.

Single-day tickets are $35 at the door, and a two-day pass costs $55.

New wave party

Shake your thing to Britpop and synth rock Saturday at the Ottobar.

Senators at Funk Box

The All Mighty Senators will regulate with rock and soul tomorrow at the Funk Box.

Birdland headlines

Local duo Birdland will sing Saturday at the Talking Head Club.

Europe visits Mojo

Finnish band Laika and the Cosmonauts will blast off -- surf-rock style -- Saturday at the Mojo Room & Lounge.
