Yankees update

New York was 8-11 on April 25 but has gone 17-7 since then to keep within 1 1/2 games of the first-place Boston Red Sox in the American League East. The Yankees are 3-3 midway through a 12-game trip, after winning Sunday's game at Texas to avoid a three-game sweep. Shortstop Derek Jeter is batting .190, including .160 on the trip, while third baseman Alex Rodriguez has overcome his slow start. He has reached base safely in 32 consecutive games, the longest streak in the major leagues this season. During the stretch, Rodriguez is hitting .331 (43-for-130) with nine home runs and 21 RBIs. Jason Giambi is on the disabled list with a sprained right ankle.
