Baker appointed executive director of retirement home

Richard Baker has been appointed executive director of Vantage House Retirement Community.

He has served as executive director of a continuing-care retirement community in Hilton Head, S.C., and of another such community in Miami.

Baker earned a bachelor's degree in business and public administration from the University of Virginia and served in the Army in military intelligence and in the National Guard.

Vantage House, a nonprofit continuing-care facility with 224 units, offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as assisted-living services and comprehensive nursing care.

PCA Group's Sherman named to HCC tech board

Caroline Sherman, a business development officer with the PCA Group, has been named to Howard Community College's Technology Advisory Board.

Sherman is former president of Computer Solutions GSD, a Howard County computer consulting company.

The Technology Advisory Board provides expertise to advance the college's technological infrastructure and educational offerings.

Hodes receives award from UB alumni group

Michael C. Hodes, managing director of Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz P.A., has been chosen to receive a University of Baltimore Alumni Association H. Mebane Turner Service Award.

The award recognizes volunteers who contribute to the welfare and success of the university.

The Towson-based law firm has offices in Columbia, Bel Air, Cambridge, Havre de Grace and Bethesda.
