May 24, 2004

A 72-year-old Edgewood man died early yesterday after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle while crossing a street Saturday evening, according to Harford County police.

Paul Joseph Thomas of the 2400 block of Greenheart Lane was walking his dog about 7:30 p.m. when he was hit by a Volvo SUV that was turning from Perry Avenue onto Willoughby Beach Road, police said.

The driver, a 33-year-old woman whom police did not identify, had a green light and there was no indication of driver error, police said.

Thomas was taken by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he died early yesterday. The case has been referred to the Harford County state's attorney's office.
